Understanding the Express Entry System

Express Entry is an online system used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to manage applications for permanent residence under Canada’s economic immigration programs.

It operates through a points-based system known as the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), where candidates are ranked based on various human capital factors including age, education, work experience, and language proficiency.

How Does It Work?

  • Application: Candidates submit their profiles to the Express Entry pool, where they are scored.
  • Selection: During each draw, IRCC selects the highest-ranking candidates based on their CRS scores.
  • Invitation to Apply (ITA): Selected candidates receive an ITA, allowing them to apply for permanent residency.
